Fig tree planting in different ways

It was great to finally meet permaculture teacher from Hong Kong. He and his student planted a fig tree so differently from how I usually do. One of my permaculture course mate came all the way from Nagoya to visit my food forest at Eden Herb Garden. We find a place near bigger trees, ideally a nitrogen fixing tree and dig a hall. I only replace a tree to the fruit tree. So I often plant fruit trees in partly shade. Then we planted garlic around the fruit tree. That’s about it. Whereas they picked an open space, dig 4 halls around the fig tree to help the roots grow and get water. They are very kind to the tree. It is very interesting to see how those 2 fig trees grow.
